Specially Designed Instruction
Providing Services as a dual TVI and COMS
Ms. Hap works as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist. She provides specially designed instruction in the 9 areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum, braille production (UEB, Nemeth, Music), and evaluations (FVLMA, O&M)
TVI services
As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, or TVI, Ms. Hap provides specially designed instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum. The Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) consists of the following 9 areas: Compensatory Skills, Social Skills, Independent Living Skills, Career Skills, Assistive Technology Skills, Recreation and Leisure Skills, Self-Determination Skills, Orientation and Mobility Instruction, and Sensory Efficiency Skills. Ms. Hap teaches students of all ages, visual conditions, and ability levels.
O&M services
As a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, or COMS, Ms. Hap provides services to students that may benefit from instruction on knowing where they are in space and how to safely, efficiently, and independently travel to where they need to go. This service may include being trained on how to use a white cane. Other instructional areas in this field include, but are not limited to, using public transportation, correct cane techniques, safety skills, body awareness, route traveling, and more.
Transcription services
Ms. Hap is proficient in creating braille at all levels. She received training at the university level on reading, writing, and teaching Unified English Braille (UEB) and Nemeth. She also has completed an extensive, two-part training course on creating Music Braille.
Evaluation services
Ms. Hap completes thorough evaluations for the visually impaired. She completes Functional Vision Assessments (FVA), Learning Media Assessments (LMA), Braille Skills Inventories, Orientation and Mobility Evaluations, and Screeners for visual acuity and orientation and mobility. Ms. Hap uses data driven strategies to assess students.
